With Honor

This little commercial took a whole year to produce! I had the idea just a few weeks before football season, which was too late to get any time with Bronco Mendenhall, who was at that time BYU’s new head football coach. But Ron Taylor believed in the project and gave me the go-ahead. So all of the football and stadium shots were created in August and the classroom scene was shot in June of the next year.

A funny thing happened with the school scene. I had anticipated an entire classroom full of students, but when we came to shoot it, only a handful of students showed up. Yikes! The shot I had planned of the camera moving through one of the portals was supposed to match with a similar shot of going through the door revealing this classroom full of students in a stadium seating setting. Well, that’s not going to work.

Quickly I had to take time out for a new plan. (Which meant I stepped back and had a desperate prayer). As I was praying someone walked through the door and I could see the classroom, but just a sliver of it. It looked cool and interesting. This became our new transition shot, which was waaaaay better than what I originally had planned. God answers prayers.
