Opening Video – “For My Brother/My Sister” Film Series

One of the great benefits from being a guy who doesn’t know all the answers, is that you’re more open to ideas from your team. Before traveling to Cambodia and Mongolia for the filming of this film series, I was talking to my composer, Lyle Durland. I told him that I wanted the series to start with a story so that we could prepare people’s hearts to put down the walls that would prevent them from giving. Once their hearts were opened, they would then willingly open their wallets and be able to participate in something greater.

Lyle had an idea. He painted the picture of this young woman on a bike taking a care package down through the hills of Cambodia to a shack that was even more run down than hers. As he painted this picture in my mind I could see it. And that’s what became the background for our opening film. What’s cool about this is Lyle is a composer. He writes the music—he doesn’t have anything to do with the creation of the pictures. But he felt safe enough that he could offer his visual suggestions—and they turned out to be amazing.
